Why Everholt

Comparing your options? Here's the honest case.

You've got a few tabs open — a cheaper bookkeeper, an app, maybe a CPA firm. Good. Here's how we work, where we fit, and where we don't, so the decision is yours to make clearly.

No pitch — a framework and the evidence. We'll even tell you when we're not the right fit.

Quick answer

Choose us when a written, fixed-fee scope and books checked against statements matter more than the lowest monthly price. If price alone decides it, a cheaper service will suit you better; if you need returns filed, you need a CPA. The fit is owners, boards and treasurers who want to verify the work themselves.

The case, point by point

Six reasons — each one you can check.

Each reason is a process or a policy, with a link to where you can see it for yourself.

Published ranges, a written scope before work starts

Indicative price ranges are published up front, so the cost is visible before any conversation. After a free review, the agreed scope gets one fixed fee, confirmed in writing before any work begins. Never hourly. See pricing →

A free books review first

Before any commitment, we go through your books and name what they need: a cleanup, a catch-up, ongoing monthly bookkeeping, some combination, or a different kind of firm. Get the free review →

Reviewed before delivery

Each account is reconciled to its statement, and the close, the profit and loss and the balance sheet pass a documented check before you or your CPA receive them. How an engagement is run →

Remote, with your data secured

We serve businesses across the US remotely, Texas-first. Statements and files move by secure exchange, with multi-factor authentication on each login we hold for your books, and the work happens in your own QuickBooks file, so it and its full history stay yours. Remote bookkeeping →

Honest scope

We keep the books and say plainly that we're not a CPA firm. Your CPA still prepares and files your taxes; we make sure the records are ready for them. Bookkeeper vs CPA →

Plain reporting

A profit and loss and a balance sheet an owner can read, a brief note in plain English on what moved, and a direct answer whenever you ask what a number means. Monthly bookkeeping →

How we compare

Your other options — fairly, and where each one fits.

Every option on your list is right for someone. Here's the honest read on each, and where our approach differs.

vs a cheaper or solo bookkeeper

Right for: the simplest files on the tightest budget. The difference: a review step and a written scope. We review every engagement before delivery and set the scope and the fee in writing.

Every side-by-side comparison

vs app-based services

Right for: owners who want a polished app and are comfortable with software-led bookkeeping. The difference: review and ownership of the file. We work inside your own QuickBooks file, so you keep it and its full history.

Reviewed by people vs software-only

vs a CPA firm

Right for: tax filing, audits, and tax planning — keep your CPA for those. The difference: we don't compete with them, we feed them. We own the books and the monthly close; your CPA files from clean records. The two roles are designed to work together.

The honest part

Who we're not for.

A firm that's right for everyone is right for no one. We'd rather tell you up front where we're not the fit than sell you something that disappoints in month three.

If any of these is you, we'll say so in the free review — and, where we can, point you toward a better fit. That candor is exactly why you can trust everything else on this page.

You want the cheapest option, period

If rock-bottom price beats a review step and a written scope for you, a solo bookkeeper or a basic app will cost less than we do. That's a fair trade — just not ours.

You need tax filing or an audit

That's CPA work, and we're not a CPA firm. We keep your books CPA-ready and work alongside yours — but the return and the audit stay with them.

You want a big-brand app experience

If a polished dashboard and a national logo are the priority, an app-based service is built for that. We're a bookkeeping firm working inside your own QuickBooks file.

What working with us is like

From "just comparing" to clean books — in five steps.

1

Free books review

We go through your books and tell you the truth, including whether a different kind of firm fits you better. No charge, no obligation.

2

A fixed scope, in writing

If we're a fit, you receive a written scope and one fixed fee: flat monthly, one-time, or both. What's in writing is what you're billed.

3

Onboarding

An engagement letter, a list of documents to send, and secure access set up. The first 30 days are planned so the close cycle doesn't stall.

4

A reconciled close, by the 10th

Each account reconciled to its statement and a monthly close on a fixed rhythm: last month's numbers by the 10th, once records are in, as the standard.

5

Review before delivery

Your P&L, balance sheet and close go through the documented review before they are sent to you.

The full detail of each service lives on its own page — this is the overview. Start anywhere: bookkeeping services · accounting · QuickBooks · advisory.

We would rather tell you on the first call that we're not the right fit than win your business and disappoint you. So we'll tell you what we do, what we don't, and what your books actually need, even if the honest answer is someone else.

FAQ · Updated October 2026

The questions comparison-shoppers actually ask.

Price is easy to compare; what it buys is not. A cheaper bookkeeper can be a great fit for a simple file. What you get from us is a fixed fee and scope in writing, every account reconciled to source, and a review before delivery on every engagement. If the cheapest possible option is the priority, we'll tell you honestly that we're not it.
Two main ways. First, review: every engagement is reviewed before delivery, and every account is reconciled to source. Second, your data: the work happens in your own QuickBooks file, Online or Desktop, so the file and its full history stay with you if you ever leave. We'll walk through the specifics in the free review.
Fees are fixed and agreed in writing once the free books review is done — never hourly. Indicative price ranges are published on our pricing page, and you see the exact number before any work starts.
Yes — keep them. We complement your CPA, we don't replace them. The model assumes both: we own the books and the monthly close, your CPA handles tax filing and advice, and we hand them clean, reconciled records at year-end. When the books already tie out, your CPA spends the engagement on the return instead of on fixing records, so the two roles together cost less friction, not more.
That's what the free review is for. We go through your books and give you a straight answer on whether you need a cleanup, a catch-up, ongoing monthly bookkeeping, some combination — or, sometimes, that a different kind of firm fits you better. No pressure to decide on the call.
If you want the cheapest possible option above all else, if you need tax filing or an audit (that's CPA work), or if you want a big-brand app experience, we're probably not your firm — and we'll say so in the review rather than sell you something that doesn't fit. Being clear about that is part of how we work.
